Mississippi: Medical Marijuana Means No Firearms

With the passage of Initiative 65 in Mississippi, readers are reminded that marijuana remains illegal under federal law. Therefore medical marijuana users – even those who do so legally under state law – still risk running afoul of federal law by owning, possessing, or carrying a firearm. This situation is not unique to Mississippi. Fortunately for Mississippians, there is no firearm registry to cross-reference with the medical marijuana scripts like we saw in Hawaii. I do not expect, nor would I envy, any law enforcement effort to confiscate firearms from Mississippi medical marijuana users.
