On May 23, 2020, several deputies of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department in Tennessee encountered an individual named Reginald Arrington Jr. The encounter resulted in Mr. Arrington being struck several times by officers’ batons during his arrest. Mr. Arrington has filed a civil suit against the department. On February 4, 2021, Hamilton County District Attorney General Neal Pinkston announced no criminal charges would be filed. A report from use-of-force expert Emanuel Kapelsohn was released at the time of the announcement.
