H.R. 1296, the Assault Weapon Ban of 2019

I just read a summary of the provisions of this bill. Unlike the 1994 AWB (which did nothing to affect crime), the new proposal provides a firearm is allowed only one cosmetic feature instead of two. That means a rifle with a detachable magazine cannot have any of the following: pistol grip; forward grip; folding or extendable stock; grenade launcher; barrel shroud; or threaded barrel. I did a rough calculation and was disappointed to find that over 50% of my long guns would be banned. Or maybe that means over one-half my long guns are awesome. What it shows, however, is that anyone proposing a ban on barrel shrouds does not understand the issues we are facing to reduce violence.
