The End of AR Pistols?

As widely reported, on August 3, 2020, the ATF sent a cease and desist letter to Q, LLC stating that they have classified the popular Honey Badger Pistol as a short barrel rifle (SBR). The gun has a 7″ rifled barrel and a SB Tactical pistol brace. The timing and motivation behind this letter is unknown but the owner of the company said no advance notice was received, the ATF has not been very responsive or helpful, and that they are now uncooperative determining the next steps.

For its reasoning, the ATF says only “The objective design features of the Honey Badger firearm, configured with the subject stabilizing brace, indicate the firearm is designed and intended to be fired from the shoulder.” I have no idea what “objective features” the ATF references but since the Honey Badger is largely indistinguishable from most other AR pistols with a SB Tactical brace (which I believe is the most popular manufacturer), this does not bode well for AR pistol owners.

Exactly what will happen next is unknown. The GOA has a website set up to send an email to the President to ask him to intervene. The NRA has an action link as well.

The owner of Q, LLC also stated that the NRA backed out of addressing this matter and exerting pressure over the ATF before it went public. In fact, he says it took six weeks for the NRA to call back. Take this into consideration the next time Wayne asks for a donation.
