Tennessee has no waiting period to purchase a firearm. Firearms purchased from a licensed dealer must first be approved under the federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System required by Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993 because a Tennessee license does not exempt the purchaser from a NICS check.
