Silencers, Short-Barrel Rifles, and Short-Barrel Shotguns (TN)

Silencers, short-barrel rifles, and short-barrel shotguns all require appropriate federal licensing to be legal. Silencers have been decriminalized in Tennessee, but still require federal licensing. Short-barrel rifles and shotguns are still prohibited by state law under § 39-17-1302(a)(3)-(4), but are legal to own if “the person acquiring or possessing a weapon described in subdivisions (a)(3), or (a)(4) is in full compliance with the requirements of the National Firearms Act (26 U.S.C. §§ 5841-5862).”
