I purchased my first suppressor, a Dead Air Mask HD, .22 caliber, from TGC Outdoors on July 5, 2016. The choice was easy based on the strong recommendation from the owner, Josh Gregory, whom I have found extremely knowledgeable and reliable. Josh explained why he recommended the Mask but did not pressure me into purchasing anything or push a particular suppressor. After providing just a few details needed for the form 4 (ATF form 5320.4) I was handed a pre-addressed envelope and reminded on what needed to be sent to the ATF.
Of course, I had my firm prepare my NFA trust using our easy and quick website submission. It took three minutes to complete the form and I received email confirmation of the firm’s receipt within minutes. My trust was delivered via email with complete instructions for execution and a letter answering common questions within hours. It took approximately ten minutes to have all the documents signed, witnessed, and notarized. I then placed a copy of the trust in an envelope along with my form 4 in duplicate and my tax stamp filing fee. This was mailed July 5, 2016.
The ATF cashed my tax stamp check on July 12, 2016. I will update this post when my stamp is approved.
UPDATE: My stamp was approved on April 27, 2017. The stamp was received by TCG Outdoors on June 1, 2017. That makes the time from submission (date checked cleared) to approval 9 months, 15 days (289 days). The time from submission to receipt was 10 months, 27 days (331 days).
I will likely submit a review of the can once I have had a chance to zero it and do further testing. The first few rounds using standard velocity ammunition were not impressively dampened but when I switched to subsonic ammunition the difference was profound.
